My partner is Indonesian and we meet up every few months for about six weeks as I work and live in Korea. They are always quizzed in Jakarta by IOs who comment on what a long holiday etc etc and ask for hotel bookings and other documents although have never asked for proof of funds. The irony being that my partner always has no problem at all with IOs at the destination. Thailand, Vietnam (no visa required).

Hi! I realize this is a late reply, but to answer this question, you can prepare one beforehand. We have a sample here: https://www.thepoortraveler.net/2019/03/sample-invitation-letter-immigration-sample-visiting-relatives-friends-affidavit-support-guarantee/

If accomplished in the Philippines, best to have it notarized to lessen IO’s doubts.

Whatever the reason is, monitoring for possible human trafficking, or just being plain jerks, the ambiguity of the process is what makes this all wrong. I have seen this happen to a friend last year, and it’s a lot of wasted time, emotion, and money. If the purpose was to help Filipinos, then a process that will allow for approval/denial of departure BEFORE even attempting to travel would make more sense. Instead, we are stuck with half-baked memorandums from half-brained lawmakers.

I miss the good old days, when some immigration personnel can help you pass through despite lacking paperwork, for a measly sum of PhP5,000.

Hard to say po because it depends on a lot of factors other than source of income.

She recently quit her job and went back to college. She’s Filipino and I’m American. I paid her ticket and we flew out of Manila together. I have an ACR-I card. She was pulled for secondary screening, after some time they asked me to go back through and meet her at the immigration office in NAIA T1. She showed photos of us and messages between us. They asked me to fill out an Affidavit of Support right there. I did so, and they let her through, we just barely made our flight.

We are planning another trip together from Manila to Bangkok. Is there a way I can get a copy of the affidavit of support so we can have it prospered and filled out when we go through immigration this time?

Since we’ve already made a trip aboard together what are the chances of her being pulled for a secondary screening this time?
Thank you.
